We Thrive in Riverside Renters Association hosted a MLK make it a day on not a day off community clean up on Sunday January 29, 2019. Volunteers braved the cold weather to collect 54 bags of litter. The Riverside Community is heavily travelled due to it being located next to Interstate 20, 15 apartment complexes that are 90 percent occupied, and light industrial warehouses (Fed Ex, Yancey), so litter piles up fast in the community. Thank you to our 20 volunteers who participated along with , Mr Barry Krebs, Lions Club representative and District 4 Cobb County Commissioner Lisa Cupid.
I was amazed that volunteers still participated with the cold weather. This was the 2nd MLK community service project hosted this weekend in the Riverside Community in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King national day of service. On Friday January 18th VIP readers participated in Read to Succeed at Premier Learning Academy Safe America will soon be conducting a preview event for our Safety Zone kiosk, within the Atlanta Airport, at 3.00 pm on Friday, January 18. The goal of the kiosk is to spread awareness of the pervasive problem of Human Trafficking, as well as how to identify potential traffickers and victims, and how to handle a possible trafficking situation.
We’re expecting officials from the Georgia and Atlanta governments; also, executives from the UPS Foundation and others who have been important sponsors and supporters of the Safe America Foundation’s efforts. Inside the airport, the Safety Zone kiosk is situated near the baggage claim area of the south terminal (the Delta Air Lines / red side), next to the Piedmont Park TravelMart. 2019 Point-In-Time Homeless Count January 30, 2019 GA-506 Marietta/Cobb Continuum of Care 2019 Point-In-Time Homeless Count January 30, 2019 SEEKING VOLUNTEERS UNSHELTERED COUNT The Marietta/Cobb Continuum of Care will conduct the 2019 Point-In-Time Count on Wednesday, January 30. The Point-In-Time Count is a snapshot of the homeless families and individuals staying in Cobb County on a particular date – we have chosen January 30, 2019 in keeping with HUD guidelines. It is an important activity for a number of reasons, including: · Gaining a better understanding of the number and types of homeless individuals and families in our community; · Identifying the number of individuals and families in need of various types of shelter, as well as supporting services; · Determining the capacity of our system to meet the need for shelter and supporting services; · Providing a basis for allocating limited resources to meet the needs of the homeless; and · Providing a database for use in preparing funding applications, such as the annual Supportive Housing Program application submitted to HUD each year. Volunteers We will need volunteers ages 18 and above to assist during the night of the count. We will be surveying the unsheltered homeless who are sleeping in the woods or outdoor encampments, public parks, under a bridge or overpass, street, sidewalk, doorway, alley, inside a vehicle, or inside an abandoned building. Requirements Must be 18 years of age or older and attend ONE training session.
