Hospice Atlanta’s Camp STARS is a weekend camp, November 1-3, 2019, that provides a safe environment where individuals can express their grief over the death of a loved one. The camp has been taking place since 1994 at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, Georgia which is about 50 miles east of Atlanta. We have served thousands of children and adults from all across Georgia as well as people from other states. We will also be having a one-day grief workshop for families March 7, 2020 at The Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta. This is for those who may not want to commit to a weekend.
We welcome any number of family members and allow each family to determine who is included in their family system. Families may also register online at http://vnhs.org/campstars. Each family will have its own cabin which house up to 10 family members. We are a non-profit organization and fully rely on community donations for all expenses related to the camp. This allows us to offer the camp for a nominal registration fee per family of $40 which may be waived if needed. This fee includes lodging, food, and all weekend activities. If a family registers 2 people or 10 people, the fee is $40. Families are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from camp. Honorable Judge West and Administrator Graves presented to the 7th and 8th grade students at Floyd Middle School. Students were provided with real life experiences and how attending school impacts their outcomes. Students were able to ask questions and share their own dreams and goals.

On behalf of the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power & Potential (GCAPP), I would like to invite you and a group of dynamic youth ages 14-24 to our 2019 Youth Empowerment Summit (YES!) in Atlanta on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. EST. The GCAPP Youth Empowerment Summit is an exciting and informative display of resilience, creativity, and inspiration from — and for — young people across Georgia. YES! brings together over 500 high school and college students to highlight and address emerging issues that are important to them and provides them a safe place for expression. YES! features young people who are experiencing personal growth and leading social change in their local communities, in many cases against all odds. The youth-driven event, held in multiple regions across the state, includes: town hall youth panel discussions; interactive activities focused on overall adolescent wellness and healthy peer relationships; and breakout sessions facilitated by community leaders from the public and private sectors addressing the realities and emerging issues young people face. Through guided, empowering discussions, young people convey messages of hope and the opportunities to reach their goals and lead community and social change.
