Parents want the best for their children and teens so that means helping them with their homework, encouraging their hobbies and activities and talking with them about healthy relationships whether it's with a peer, teacher, etc. During Let's Talk month each year, young people and parents, trusted adults, or another caregiver are encouraged to communicate with each other about healthy relationships, their bodies, body image, reproduction, sexual behavior/activity, preventing pregnancy and STDs.
In Celebration of Let's Talk month, Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale County Health Departments and GCAPP are hosting a Parent Forum at Meadowcreek High School next Tuesday, October 30th from 6-8p - https://www.gcapp.org/parents. This event is geared to parents/adult caregivers/trusted adults and will provide tips on how to start conversation with your teens. We will also have a panel discussion with law enforcement, public health experts, parents and teens moderated by Fox 5's Evening Anchor, Marissa Mitchell.

We want to make sure we empower students and parents. We know many of the parents we work with are not familiar with the eduction system of the United States and that is why we work on making sure they receive accurate and updated information. On Wednesday, October 24th, 2019 from 7PM-8:30PM we will be hosting a Parent Night. We will have workshops on what students should be doing throughout their current school year and also go over financial aid, scholarship opportunities and FAFSA. This will take place at The Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta, 1700 Chantilly Rd. NE, Atlanta, GA. This event is open to all parents, even if their child attends a high school that does not have a HoPe chapter. I am sharing this with you all so that you may share in your schools and have the parent coordinators reach out to parents and invite them to our event.
