Free Reading Buddy Workshop
December 5th 6:30-8p YELLS, Inc. 779 Franklin Gateway SE Marietta, GA 30067 Practice makes perfect. We've heard that all of our lives, and it's true if...you are practicing correctly. If you practice doing something incorrectly, you'll probably get good at doing it poorly. This 1.5 hour workshop will provide you with an overview of how people learn to read. Knowing this will help you determine what to do to best help your "buddy" progress in reading skill. This workshop will focus on building reading fluency, helping your "buddy" read with speed, accuracy and expression. In this workshop you will practice helping someone become a better reader by listening to them read and learning how to give feedback that will allow them to become a better reader, faster. The process of learning to become a better reader is the same for children and adults. Just like the process for learning to play the piano is the same, no matter how old you are. The main difference in working with people of different ages is the selection of appropriate reading material. FREE CHILD CARE available with registration! Please contact [email protected] or 404-313-5299 to register your child. Bio Kelley Provence has spent over 25 years developing and implementing programming across literacy disciplines. New Cobb County Public Library Operating Hours Starting November 5th (Marietta, Ga. – November 1, 2018) Changes to the operating hours for Cobb County Public Libraries will start on Monday, November 5, 2018. The changes include earlier opening times and the restoration of hours at Cobb libraries with hours that were reduced in 2011. The new schedule for Cobb libraries will expand access to library resources for Cobb County students, families and educators. “Expanded opportunities for area students to add time at the library to their evening and weekend routines is positive news for our collaborative partners of local schools and educators,” said Cobb Library Director Helen Poyer. “More library hours will strengthen the community’s educational ecosystem for literacy, school success, post-secondary education preparedness, adult learning and more for students and families,” Poyer said. One highlight is expansion of Saturday morning hours for Cobb County libraries. Doors will open Saturdays at 10 a.m. Highlights of the new library operating hours schedule include: § The Thursday and Friday opening time will be 10 a.m. at the large libraries – Switzer, West Cobb, Mountain View, South Cobb, East Cobb and Sewell Mill – and mid-size libraries – Gritters, Kemp, Kennesaw, Powder Springs, Stratton and Vinings. Thursday and Friday hours at the large and mid-size libraries will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. § The four small libraries – Acworth, Lewis A. Ray, Sibley, and Sweetwater Valley – will be open Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. § Saturday hours will change to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for all Cobb libraries, except for the Windy Hill location, which will have no changes in its schedule of Monday-Friday of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday hours will be unchanged for the Regional libraries. The Switzer, Mountain View, South Cobb and West Cobb libraries will be open Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. November 11 is the first Sunday for the West Cobb Regional Library since it was closed for a paint and carpet renovation project for one month.
